pool chlorinator flow?

The tablets in my inline chlorinator are disolving very slowly even if I set the control dial to 10. I filled the chlorinator with tabs 2 weeks ago, and only 1 or 2 tablets have disolved. If I run the pool pump with the cap to the chlorinator removed, the chlorinator fills up with water. The water recedes after I turn the chlorinator off. Could I have an air pocket?

The lines on a pool chlorinator are very small and clog over time. They either need to be replaced, or cleared if it is at all possible. Since the lines can be as small as 1/4" I would suggest a straightened hanger to clean them out. That being said the lines also become very brittle over time and using a hanger could damage them, so use extreme caution if you attempt to clean the lines out. OR you can do as we did when I worked as a pool man, and place a chlorine tablet into 2 or three of the skimmer baskets depending on pool size. This will properly chlorinate the pool and help stop unsightly algae growth. just check the baskets twice a week and replace the pucks when they are gone. If you have children explain to them that these chlor-tabs are not a toy, and if they are too young to understand that I might suggest using a small screw to secure the lid closed. This is actually a very common problem, since these chlorine feeders were sold all across the country with the same fittings and micro tubing water supplies. It was easy to use the parts that they supplied, but the discharge hose always clogs. I think it was a calculated failure, so you would have to call a pool man to replace your chlorine feeder. Is a Refrigerator Water Filter Sufficient?
