Salt Water Pool chlorinators?
We have to resurface our pool, our old (16 yr) pebble tec is cracked all over. Will likely resurface with new pebble tec and have'm scrap the subcrete better this time. Also, I am replacing the entire Pool Filter / pump setup. Can Salt water system addition be worth the extra $500? Also, is there any issues using salt water chlorination with pebble tec?
Also - does the salt water option add any benefits to swimming in general. I'm not familar with this type of chlorination. Thanks!
Personally as a pool/Hot Tub tech I've seen and installed a few salt systems and honestly they arent really worth the extra bucks in my opinion. If they are improperly installed they can cause all kinds of havoc the main one being if they dont have current collectors installed in the lines they will eat just about any metal surfaces they come into contact with over a period of time.
The salt cell system is pretty basic in its operation after dumping the salt into the pool the salt cell splits the salt atoms and creates chlorine by using electrical current. This is the reason you want current collectors in the pvc lines usually one before the salt cell and one after the salt cell to catch the electrical current. It is really no different then using chlorine pucks or granular/liquid chlorine in your pool. The only real difference is the salt lasts a lot longer in a pool before it needs to be topped up where as chlorine added especially in a sunny area pool fades with the UV light and usage and thus requires more maintenance.
Most of the systems ive seen tho for pools ( in Canada) are nowhere near 500 bucks so id be kinda leery about a 500 dollar system and its effectiveness.
