How can I teach my child to jump in the pool from the side?

My child is scared of jumping into the Swimming Pool. I saw her for the first time sit on the edge of the pool, start to push off, and then at the last minute turn and bash her stomach. She is 4 years old and scared of having water splashed on her face. I had a word with the swimming teacher after and she said "she always does that". She wasnt very helpful. Does anyone have some advice?

I have had the problem before when I was a beginner coach. I understood that it is not the jump that scares non swimmers but what happens if her face gets under water. First, teach her blowing bubbles properly, then teach her holding breath under water. Instructors often use jumping to get the child under water because they are scared to get under by themselves. It does not work for everyone with most kids 4 yo you have to go step by step and put ears> lips> nose> forehead and so on till they get confident. It is not the jump she can not do it is puting her face under water and holding breath or blowing bubbles. That is why you getting belly flop jump because she does not know what is going to heppen after.
