Can you help with my oil burner problem?

It seems that my oil is "foaming". The burner has trouble firing. When I bleed the line, the oil comes out frothy. If I bleed the line until it clears, it fires up fine. A couple of days or weeks later, we have no hot water, and I have to repeat the process. I checked for water and have none to speak of. The nozzle is clean and it, along with the filter cartridge were changed 9 months ago.

What causes this?

I keep thinking it is a bad batch of fuel, but I can in no way prove that.

I'm thinking you did indeed get a bad batch of fuel. Usually, these furnaces are gravity fed from a tank which is higher than the furnace. Gravity won't cause foaming (an electromechanical pump might, but why would it start now?), and if you have a clean filter and a newish Burner Orifice, there's no reason for this problem to occur, unless the fuel was foamy (contaminated) when installed in your tank. Did this problem start soon after refueling? Did you run completely out of fuel before the last refuel? Maybe you got rust or other debris from the tank bottom into the feed line, but I can't imagine that causing foam. I'd say call the fuel distributor, and ask them to send a tech out. They should do this at no charge, and if they can't show you a reasonable mechanical fix, it's their problem. If you know others who use this same vendor, check with them.
