why does Swimming Pool water still remain cloudy after using flocculant?

I have a 24 ft round pool. just opened it up after the winter. Had no cover. vacuumed to waste, killed algae, shocked with 3--1 lb bags of super shock? was this enough? added algaecide, clarifier, ph is really high but chlorine was ideal. Still cloudy, used 2 1.5 lb bottles of flocculant. this always clears it up but not this time. Now what do i do> i am just about ready to drain and start over>

Sounds pretty typical of not using a winter cover, you get quite the mess without it. Did you put in all these chemicals close together? Your water may be all cloudy now from all the chemicals put in it recently. Is the pH still high? High pH can also contribute to cloudiness so you should adjust that first before adding any other chemicals. How about your filter? The sand or cartridge in it may need to be cleaned (buy liquid filter cleaner at your local pool store to run through it) or replaced to increase your filtration.

Give it a couple of days before adding anymore chemicals to let all the ones in there circulate through. Once your chlorine levels have dropped again, you can try shocking with the liquid Chlorine Shock but I wouldn't recommend bleach as the other answerer did, it has some different components than the liquid shock does and it's not the best for it to mix with regular chlorine.

How did you vacuum it after the floc? You want to make sure you vacuum up the settled particles very slowly and carefully so as not to stir it up again. Keep vacuuming it, try the floc again in a few days if you want, or bring in a water sample to your local pool store for a free water analysis.
