Aquachek Test
whats the best brand of Swimming Pool products? or what does this mean?
I did an aquachek test strip and checked it online and everything was fine/normal except free chlorine level it is too low, anyway it said to add 6.6oz of {generic dichlor 56%}? not sure exactly what that means?
Is that a brand? Or does it matter what brand i get? Is that different than Chlorine tablets?
Sorry I know its alot of questions in one, but maybe someone who knows something about it can help, hope so anyway
Thanx a bunch!
I have no clue what u mean,? sry. I just needed to know what the best kind is to get and if I needed to get that exact kind? thanx tho!
Sounds like you just got a pool! Don't worry, it gets easier to take care of the pool, even if you weren't good in high school chemistry.
There are several kinds of Chlorine;
There is Chlorine gas, which is 100% chlorine. Only professional pool cleaners/companies are allowed to have it and put it into people's pools. I don't personally recommend its use for several reasons I won't take the time to discuss.
There is also something called Tri-Chlor (short for Trichloro-s-triazinetrione) which is about 90% chlorine by weight and 10% other stuff, like stablilizers which you can think of as a kind of sunscreen for your chlorine to last longer in the pool.
Di-Chlor (short for Dichloro-s-triazinetrione) usually is around 60% chlorine by weight and has even more stuff in the other 40% to help balance the water chemistry (like PH) than the Tri-Chlor. Di-Chlor is generally the more expensive chlorine because by weight, you are getting less chlorine, but in my opinion, the cost is ofset by the benefit from the other 40%.
Both Di-Chlor and Tri-Chlor come in tablet form.
Di-Chlor is probably going to be the easiest for you to use starting off. As to using a brand name or generic stuff... if you ask 10 people, you'll get 10 different answers. I personally think it is worth it to spend a little bit more and get name brand stuff. Some of the cheaper stuff has more 'filler' in it, which over a long period can cause more harm than good to the equipment and interior finish.
If you need a name to get started, I use BioGuard products in my pool. They have a website you can search for more information.
