Spas With a Hot Tub

* You will save money on electrical bills if you are only heating a hot tub. In many climates there is no need to heat the swim area at all during summer, especially if you use a Solar Blanket or one of the many forms of solar heating available.

If you have a lot of guests round there is nothing wrong with cranking up the temperature in the swim area and having a party!

Which Manufacturers are best?

Three major manufacturers offer separate swimming and hot tubs areas in their swim spas. These are Master Spas (famous for the H2X range), H2O and Cal Spa. There is a brief outline of the pluses and minuses of these swim spas below.

The H20 Revolution

If you are looking for an affordable swim spa with a separate hot tub this could be a good choice. It is the cheapest model on this page at under twenty thousand dollars but has a plenty of seats, hydro jets and fun features like LEDs, fiber optic lighting and Roman fountains.

It is nearly twenty feet long and is delivered as a complete unit that simply needs plumbing and electrical connections. The hot tub is completely separate and has 2 hydrotherapy hot seats plus a full body, lay-down massage lounger. The large swim area will keep several kids happy at any one time.

The only drawback with H2O swim spas is that they use swim jets to create the water current for swimming in place. The swim jets system is not reckoned to as good for swimming as the kind of propeller driven systems in more expensive swim spas. At less than twenty thousand dollars, though, this is a lot of swim spa.

The H2O Duo MAX

The duo max is from the same manufacturer as the Revolution but is even larger. There is room for several people in the hot tub area and there are two molded bucket seats in the fourteen feet long swim area.

The H2X Momentum

Master Spas have been quick to capitalize on the popularity of their original H2X. They introduced the Crosstrainer and Crosstrainer 2 models last year and have recently launched the H2X Momentum. This is a big swim spa at nearly twenty feet overall. Most of that length is for swimming but one end is devoted to a hot tub space. The two areas are separated by a stylish, clear acrylic 'bulkhead'. The swimming area and hot tub have separate heaters.

All H2X swim spas have powerful, variable speed, water current generators based on propellers. Propeller generated currents are less turbulent and more powerful than currents created by swim jets.

The Cal Spa FP 4700

This is another swim spa with a completely separate hot tub. The swimming current comes from swim jets but it is easy to fit a resistance tether to get as vigorous a work out as you need. A resistance tether attaches to the swimmer's body so you can swim as hard as you like and stay in place. It is a method used by many endurance athletes as part of their training schedule. The FP 4700 also offers aquatic gym features like a rowing machine.
