Help with my Swimming Pool pump,please!!!!!?

This is my 1st year opening the pool. We bought the home at the end of summer last year and the pool was already open. I went to open yesterday to reattach the pump and it wouldn't work. It would turn on but thats all.I also noticed that it smelled a bit funny,kind of like smoke. Do I need to buy a whole new pump?is there repair people who can fix this?Does anyone know any tricks or what the problem could be?

Well, that info is for the filter but not the pump.
Was the pump left outside all winter? Above Ground Pool pumps are notorious for seized or stuck bearings if left not running in a moist environment. You shouldn't be smelling anything either except only briefly if at all. If the pump is louder than you remember from last season or is making a squealing or screeching noise then yes, I'd be taking it in for an estimate. Don't authorize a repair right off the bat.Depending on what the issue is, it MAY actually be cheaper to buy a new pump than to repair the old one. Labor charges are a killer.
If it's not noisy and does in fact run ( not just hum), you did fill the pump basket with water before starting it right? The drain plugs on the pump are also installed correctly? Where you re connected the plumbing, you made sure that connection is solid and it's not sucking air. You also made sure that you actually hooked it up right? The front end of the pump (wet end) connects to your skimmer and the top pipe coming from the pump connects to the "INLET" ( it's marked that) on your filter.

The only other thing that may cause you grief is if the Shaft Seal burned out while you were trying to run the pump dry for an extended period. That's an easy fix for a pool shop involving little labor and a 16 dollar part. A dead give away for a cooked shaft seal is water leaking directly under the pump where the motor shaft meets up with the volute (wet end). It'll suck air in through a cooked shaft seal possibly preventing you from getting the pump's prime.

As for the link you posted. It doesn't lead anywhere so I can't see what it is you want to replace the pump with. If you do replace the pump, you'll want one that has the same horsepower. You can find that information on the manufacturer's label on the top face of the motor.
