How do we keep chemical deposits from adhering to the bottom of the toilet bowel?

We live in an area where there are grayish deposits that form on the bottom of toilet bowls. The problem may be exacerbated by us flushing only a couple of times a day to save water. We''re tried toilet bowel cleaners and scouring powder, but they don't do much. Every couple of months we use pumice which does remove the deposits, but it's messy and might damage the porcelain over time. Any ideas on how to prevent the deposits from adhering in the first place? How about that blue stuff from a dispenser hanging inside the tank? Thanks.

It's not chemicals. It's hard water. You can't prevent them. Use The Works once a week to clean.
