To much chlorine=Cloudy pool??

My son was in the pool..he is 18 months. Well, he pooped in his little swimmer diaper while he was in there and some came out the diaper and into the pool. I was told to super chlorinate the pool and that is what I did. I added one bag of shock...and 4 chlorine tabs. I have a 1700 gallon pool. My pool is pretty cloudy and I am wondering if this is why. I also put the algaecide and clarafier. Is this going to clear up. I know that in time the sun will diminish the chlorine but is the cloudiness going to go away?

Ah a little poop is alright! If it was tight and not liquid and you had 1-3ppm of chlorine you would have been alright. People freak when you mention it and looks like you bought into it.

Your pool turned cloudy due to the type of chlorine you put in it. Likely you used Calcium Hypochlorite, typically bagged shock sold everywhere but is probably the worst type to use since it is 1/2 calcium by volume your Calcium Hardness has been increased and the calcium is like white dust in the water.

To take care of your pool use liquid chlorine, sodium hypochlorite, 12.5%, pool chlorine. Your pool needs 1.89oz of SHC 12.5% to attain 1ppm. 1-3 is normal with 5 max.

Conditioner, Stabilizer or Cyanuric Acid are all the same. Your water needs 30-50ppm to protect the chlorine, any chlorine, and allow it to last longer.

Take the chlorine tabs out or get a floater to put them in. One pound of shock treats 12,000 gallons so you really over dosed your pool. Get a chlorine test kit and just test your water and you will see it going down.

Next time your little one poops the pool, don't freak out if you have 1-3 in it.
