Top Fin 10 Filter Cartridges with Bio Sponge?

I bought some filter Cartridges and it came with a reusable Blue sponge that is supposed to be a home to the good bacteria is it good?

It's better than the fully integrated cartridges. With those, you replace the entire unit, so you pretty much have to build your colony of nitrifying bacteria all over again. Luckily, some will reside in gravel and decor.

With the bio sponge filters, you open up the clamshell and just replace the carbon portion every month or so depending on bioload. You can then squeeze off the biosponge in used tank water (never tap!) to clean it and keep your bacteria colony viable.

I use Aquaclear filters on my big tanks, but use one of these Top Fins on my 2.5 gallon feeder tank.
