why is dirt going into the hose of my vacuum instead of the filter?
I have a hoover windtunnel that has one of those hepa filters and the dirt goes into that container and then you empty it.Well now it has been going into the hose and not going to the filter and I have taken it apart and cleaned the thing out lots of times.It doesn't have much sucking power either now.I have only had it for like a year.What could it be?
it is now spitting the dirt back out..ahhh!

I also have a Hoover Wind tunnel, however mine is the bag type. I have encountered a blockage in the intake port right where the hose attaches to the vac. There is a sharp turn at this point, and debris and dust seem to accumulate there. Remove the hose and check that port. Also check the hose for clogs.
To clean the hose, remove both ends of the hose from the vacuum. Use a broom handle to remove any clog in the hose. Just insert the broom handle in the hose and push it until it protrudes out the opposite end. Then reinstall the hose. The brush roller assembly also can become clogged. Check to see that the air intake at the brush roller in free of debris.
Your vac should have a rinseable filter at the top of the dirt canister. It should be rinsed in water and air dried on a regular basis. If it or the hepa filter are clogged, this will restrict the air flow, lowering the level of suction.
The rinseable filter also seals the canister making at air tight. When these seals begin to fail, the vacuum will lose suction. So if everything checks out ok, replace the rinseable filter assembly.
