How much longer do you think, till we won't need infantryman anymore?
I was watching T.V. and i heard a military robotics engineer talking about how in the near future, the need for troops (infantry) on the ground will decrease?
How much longer do you think?
Or will there always be the GRUNTS! on the ground?
not anything against them, im asking because i don't want them to die out

This is a great question and very near to my heart. I make these comments from my own experiences of being a US Army infantryman for over 15 years.
BLUF: Whether or not they are called Infantryman or 11 series in war it will take a human to hold ground, especially in an urban environment. A machine equipped with cameras, weapons, sensors, etc.. may be able to maintain a position in an area, such as Robots in the DMZ (Republic of Korea) and the advancement of Artificial Intelligence may equip that machine with enhanced decision making capabilities, but it will never have feelings or make an on the spot decision based upon it's gut or heart. Arguably, the human at the monitor end of the robot may make decisions (disable, kill, etc..), such as UAV operators is not an infantryman, but maybe it is.
I am an advocate of utilizing technology in combat operations, but I strongly hold firm that humans must have control. In the case of utilizing a robot to clear a room, the robot operator should be an experienced infantryman who has cleared a room. Human interaction and support of the people are what wins wars, not complete and utter destruction of people and personal property.
