how to mount an 8" x 10" cedar mantle?
We tore out our old mantle and legs leaving just the brick exposed. We have a 10" x 10" x 10' cedar post I plan to cut and plane/ sand down to 6" x 10" x 7'. I want to install it on top of the brick wall mounted to the sheetrock / studs and possibly have anchors into the brick with bolts and washers if necessary. Do I need to cut out the shetrock and use steel plates to anchor it the studs or mount a 2x4 and dado out the post and bolt it down or what? Looking for any ideas / experience that may help. Thanks
Im not exactly sure as the location of your mantle, is it flush with the wall?
I wouldnt recomend hanging a mantle of the 6" if it is unsupported underneath for a full 10".
