Problem in community tank?

Currently in my 17 x 8 x 12 inches community tank there are:
cherry barb x5
neon tetra x 10
cardinal tetra x 5
yamato shrimp x 3
and some weird colored (pink) danios (i think there are GM or dyed)
I'm thinking of adding some corydoras for some bottom dwelling fishes.

Every week i carried out 25% water change. The new water i add some hot boiled water to make the water warm and a pinch of salt. This is an advised from te fish-shop to prevent the water to get too cold for the fishes.

But recently 4 my tetra keeps dying one by one. And the latest victim is a cherry barb. He died with opened mouth and big oval shaped belly looks like its bloated.
(Now i have 6 tetras n 4 barbs).

What can be the problem?
Am i keeping an aquarium the right way?

Your tank volume isn't even near 10 gallons and you already have about 20 inches if fish in it. The consequence is the death of your fish. I calculated the volume and it's only 7.06 US gallons. This is very small for a community tank. The best thing for you to do right now is keep only up to 7 of the fishes that you like the most and take the others back to the pet store to avoid any more deaths. You should skimp on the corydoras because they can grow up to 3 inches(depending on the species). Feed lightly and provide excellent filtration and you'll find your fish living up to 3 or more years.
