how do I backwash a Pool Filter?

I have an Intex pop-up pool. Most of the manuals that came with it say to backwash the pool filter, but none of them say how to.

Turn your pool pump off. Turn the handle on the top your filter to backwash and turn the pump back on. There should be a sightglass on the line and you will see the dirt going out of the drain. When the glass is clear, turn off your pump and turn the handle back to filter. Turn your pump back and and look at your pressure gauge and you should see the pressure drop a good bit after it is backwashed.

Add new DE powder following each backwash. Add the new DE powder to a bucket of water and then pour it through your skimmer.
