Sagacity

Yellow pool-closed signs
piled high
beside the water at the Y
lest orange alert should
all at once
go lemon.

Too many sandwich boards
it seems
one by the entrance would suffice;
but we have agreed to be told
to use care
or to avoid
this or that
every meter or so
prudent
by consensus.

I put on my cheater spectacles
to ready you for old-man talk:
In my day we took risks.
We sometimes ran on aqua tiles
or dived beside that floating rope
and a few of us broke our brainpans
but that taught the rest of us
lessons
this waiting stack of warning boards
cannot convey.

Ah the unfortunate cost of living in a litigious society, because this isn't about bureaucracy, it's about judicial impropriety...institutionalized until it's now, not only no longer inappropriate, but the norm.

"Please remove this windshield sun screen before operating vehicle. Do not drive with screen instlalled." (A QUOTE from the back of one I once owned, in big, bold lettering on the bottom left so it could be easily read while sitting behind the steering wheel unable to see out because of it!!!!)
