Pool Size Heat
Proper pool heater size?
My Hayward H350 finally got a leak at the exchanger so I am going to get another. My question is this: assuming I have enough gas pressure (I do) for any size heater, will going to an H400 decrease the time to heat my pool a fixed amount? Will it be more efficient? I have a 22x40 pool right now that is 48k gallons. According to the charge a 300 or 350 would be fine. My question is will a 400 work faster?
Well sometimes bigger is not better when big enough to do the job is the answer. If you contact Hayward and ask them your question they may tell you a 350 is fine or a 200 would be better.
Think about this. You know those acrylic spas they sell. They are electric heated. They use a dinky heater to do the job since the heater runs near continuously to maintain the water temp and the heat is kept in with that thick cover they put on them all. Another key to heating your pool is to cover it to keep the wind off and preserve the heat!
A 400,000 btu heater will need a 2" gas meter to run efficiently and sometimes the gas company will charge to swap it out!
You might check into a heat pump. They work like an air conditioner in reverse. They are electric but have a lower operational cost when compared to gas and are designed to run all year long!
