What does "system error 17" on pool/spa timer mean?

Pool/spa timer sting L, model SR-500, beeps & reads "system error 17". I can not find the manual, does anyone know what it means?

That's not a timer. That's a safety vacuum release system. It monitors the pressure on the drains and shuts the pumps off if the drain gets plugged to prevent someone from getting sucked in. We have one on our neighborhood pools.

Here's the manual http://stinglproducts.com/techinfo/PDF/2007SR500PSComboManual35.pdf . Page 39 says an Error 17 is a very high or very low inlet pressure. Check the strainer baskets.

Winterize the right way with Teddy Bear Pools & Spas!

Winter can be tough on a pool. Algae and other problems can start even in cold weather, making spring opening messy and expensive. Prevent these problems now by winterizing your pool properly and using Teddy Bear Pools & Spas closing products. Teddy Bear products are designed to keep your pool water clean and clear all winter long.

Proper winterization also protects pool surfaces and equipment, and makes spring start-up quick and easy. Keep in mind, proper winterization involves more than just adding products. Follow the steps below to make sure your pool is well protected through the cold weather months.

1. Balance the pool water.
Take a sample of your pool water to Teddy Bear Pools & Spas for expert advice on water balance. If needed, adjust the pH to 7.4 - 7.6 and make sure the other balance factors are in their proper range to prevent damage to your pool liner. (Note: if your pool is not using chlorine consult your Teddy Bear Lab Staff on Proper closing guidelines).

If algae is present in your pool you should treat this prior to your pool closing. If left untreated it will only get worse during the winter months, even if you use a Teddy Bear closing kit.

2. Winter Cleaning
Brush all pool walls and bottom and vacuum if needed. Clean along the waterline and around pool surfaces with an appropriate pool surface cleaner. Also clean out the skimmer and hair and lint trap. Backwash your filter and use a Bear Strip Filter Cleaner to remove oils and grease and ensure proper operation for next season.

3. Add Teddy Bear Closing Kit
Teddy Bear Pools & Spas Provides 2 different closing kits. Kit 1 winterizes up to 15,000 gallons, Kit 2 winterizes pools up to 30,000 gallons (For larger pools ask our lab staff for assistance). Both Closing Kits contain Bear Shock 56, Bear Magnet and Teddy Bear Algaecide.

With the filter running simply add all 3 winterizing chemicals (It doesn’t matter in what order). Predissolve Bear Shock 56 by adding 1 lb of shock to 2-3 gallons of water. Mix thoroughly and then add evenly across pool surface. Let your filter run for at least 2 hours to distribute these products evenly throughout the water.

4. Prepare your equipment
Consult with Teddy Bear Pools & Spas about proper winterization for your pool equipment. This may involve partial draining, plugging lines, and equipment removal and storage. If you use antifreeze to protect your pool lines or equipment be sure to use antifreeze approved for pool use. Do not use automotive anti-freeze.

5. Cover the pool
A well designed cover will keep your pool protected and free from leaves, dirt, and other debris during the winter months. Solid covers should be free of holes and held in place securely by water tubes or cables. Add about 1 inches of water to the top of the cover to help hold it in place. Mesh covers may also be used but will allow rain and some material to enter the pool during the winter. Apply an additional treatment of Algaecide about halfway through the winter to help keep the water clean and free from algae.
