Rider Raft
Does this sound like a good novel idea?
In anouther world (Eremorde), closer to Earth than any other planet, humans who just turn eighteen choose which occupation they want. Destin has jsut turned eighteen and can't wait to stand forth at Test Islan so a dragon could choose him. Unluckly, no egg did.
Feeling stupid (everyone who wanted to be a dragon rider has always been chosen) he steals a raft and heads into sea. (In this book, a drgaon owner helps the land from war). Once in the sea he finds a glowing blue light comiong from the bottom. He dives in and under water sees a light blue dragon egg. He picks it up, and straight away as he touches it, the egg cracks and the blue light dims, instead a black light surrounded everywhere, and because they were under water too long, fell to the bottom of the sea.
When Destin wakes up (the dragon laying on his stomache, they see a beutiful woman, waiting for them to be consciense. What does she want? Why is she here? And who is she?
Do you like it so far?
That's pretty damn funny... being told you're copying the least original writer of recent years. But yes, people who haven't read Anne McCaffrey will assume you're ripping off Eragon. You might want to spend some time on your spelling and grammar before committing yourself to writing something as long as a novel.
The closest planet to Earth, depending on where they are in their orbits, is Mars or Venus, neither of which is particularly hospitable to humans. If you want to have a fictional planet closer than that, you need some explanation for why we've never seen it, and why its gravity doesn't pull other planets out of their predicted orbits.
