What is part SX202S Sand Shield for on Hayward sand filter?
I bought my house this year and it had an Above Ground Pool. I'm still trying to learn about it right now. I noticed that it looks like the previous owner may not have put this back on the filter when he worked on it. I was wondering what it was for because I have been getting a little bit of sand into the pool when I run the Filter System. I was wondering if this might cause the issue.
The sand shield is just used to cover the tube in the filter when adding sand. It is not a permanently installed part. Sounds like a part inside the filter cracked or something became disconnected and is letting the sand through. This happened with mine a few years ago and was an easy fix. The bad news is you have to empty the filter to check if something is broken. Once its fixed you can just vacuum the sand back into the filter. Your local pool dealer may carry replacement parts.
